Well-Being of Czech and Slovak Children

Abstract
AIM: For our contribution, we considered whether and in what way social protection professionals inCzech and Slovak Republics can realistically and unequivocally identify what a child’s well-being and best interests look like, as well as how to and from what children should be protected. THEORETICAL BASE: For our research purposes, the concept of well-being and the best interests of the child is based on the characteristics Amartha Sen’s and Martha Nussbaum’s capability approach. METHODS: The theoretical contribution employed analytical-deductive reasoning. RESULTS: We considered how to solidify abstract concepts that are key to the workers’ capabilities for the work of social and legal protection of children. IMPLICATION FOR SOCIAL WORK: We identified indicators representing the well-being and best interests of children which may enable the creation of other relevant diagnostic and assessment tools for social workers in the field social and legal protection of children.
