Social Work Education from Sociological Perspective

Abstract
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the paper is to introduce the social work education into the kontext of the development of educational opportunities and labor market requirements and to compare employers’ requirements with social workers and areas in which social workers are educated in the tertiary education system. THEORETICAL BASE: The issue is viewed through the competency-ased approach, the paper is focused on the description of advantages and disadvantages of applying this approach in the field of education in social work. METHODS: The method used in this article is the secondary analysis of quantitative data. The data are drawn from the database of the Czech Statistical Office and reflex the development of education in the Czech Republic in recent years. OUTCOMES: The current state of education in social work is subject to criticism, according to many authors educated social workers have no competencies there are demanded by labor market (Chytil, 2007, Elichová, 2017). SOCIAL WORK IMPLICATIONS: The findings can be the basis for further discussion on the appropriate implementation of labor market requirements and practical needs in social work education programs. The actual application of the competence approach to social work should be subject to critical reflection, too.
