Abstract
OBJECTIVES: The text describes the process of preparing prisoners for release in so-called “leaving units” in prisons. It focuses mainly on the psychological, socio-pedagogical and legal aspects of the preparation. THEORETICAL BASE: Many offenders show deficient or deviant socialization. The Prison Service needs to know their risks to be able to work effectively with them. For this purpose, Prison Service uses a tool called SARPO (a predictive tool for assessing risks and criminogenic needs of prisoners). On the basis of this assessment, the content of the treatment program is then created. Its framework is further regulated by various legal standards (law, decree, regulation, etc.) and envisages a variation of pedagogical, social-legal and psychological approaches and methods. METHODS: The method of descriptive analysis of recent data from prisons and custody prisons in the Czech Republic is used. OUTCOMES: The text presents a summaryand s tructured analysis of the most important aspects of working with prisoners in the leaving units. SOCIAL WORK IMPLICATIONS: Given the transdisciplinary nature of the discipline, knowledge can be used to increase the effectiveness of social work in the penitentiary environment and in the post-penitentiary care of those with risky of reduced reintegration.
