The Link between the Anticipated Availability of Social Support and the Quality of Life of Seniors: Its Implications for Social Work

Abstract
OBJECTIVES: This study aims to determine whether there is a link between the types of household of seniors and the anticipated availability of social support in difficult situations of the seniors, and whether there is a link between the anticipated availability of social support in the difficult situation of the seniors and their quality of life, as shown in selected indicators by the type of household. THEORETICAL BASIS: The study uses the theory of social support. METHODS: The method used is a secondary analysis study conducted by the Generation and Gender Survey Czech Republic (GGS, 2005). OUTCOMES: There is a link between the type of household of the seniors and the anticipated availability of social support in difficult situations. Another result is that there is a link between the anticipated availability of social support in difficult situations and the selected indicators of the quality of life of the seniors. SOCIAL WORK IMPLICATIONS: Our findings allow us to declare that the fundamental task of social work with seniors is to develop interventions aimed at securing and maintaining the availability of social support.
